Barracks
In The Last Knights, the Barracks serve as the primary building where players recruit and manage their soldiers. It is one of the core structures in early and mid‑game progression because your army’s size and composition directly determine your combat strength.
What the Barracks Do
1. Recruit Soldiers
The Barracks is the place where you can buy new units for your army. Different unit types—such as Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery —are all obtained here. Each unit type has its own wage (authority), stats, and strategic value (terrain + special bonuses). Barracks will also specific units that are only hirable based on your countries special units and the geographic terrain. Beware, barracks do not exist in villages!
2. Shape Early Army Composition
Starting as a private in TLK, one should immediately navigate to the barracks to begin recruiting their army. Often armies are formed with a "late-game" build in mind. Keep this in the back of your head as you select the units you will battle with and develop throughout the age.
Strategic Importance
- Every soldier you hire contributes to your authority cap for a given commander rank, so part of using the Barracks effectively is balancing army strength with respect to your total authority. Keep an eye on your income too, don't hire too many soldiers if you can't afford them.
- Since combat strength and survivability depend heavily on your army mix, the Barracks are essential in determining how well you perform against training armies, and enemy player-armies later on.
